Runners at Grand National
Being hailed as the world’s greatest sporting event, the Grand National is a much- waited horse-racing extravaganza. This prestigious National Hunt horse race is held at the spectacular Aintree course in England, scheduled to take place on Saturday in April every year.
In 2009, it offered total prize money of £900,000. Due to the huge popularity and the money associated with it, this race is not only popular among winning jockeys and horse-racing fanatics but also among people who are actively involved in betting. Thus each year, the Grand National receives an overwhelming response from millions across the world owing basically to its consistency in exciting starts and thrilling finishes by the jockeys. With thirty fences to be jumped in course of four and a half miles, Grand National Runners is the world’s most tenacious and most vigorous test of both the horse and the jockey. Consequently, the Grand National is also the most controversial due to the sufferings of the participating horses because of tedious routine and training.
Nonetheless, Grand National is the major highlight of the entire year in Britain and more than 100 horses have been finalized for the 2010 season, thus again showing the extent of its popularity.
